Survey at 10½ years

Regular follow-ups allow us to monitor the children’s development, as well as changes in their family circumstances and their environment. The next key stage in this follow-up will be when the Elfe children turn 10½ years.

Survey objectives

This next survey will be of vital importance for the Elfe study, as it will allow us to further explore a range of factors (family, social, environmental, school, etc.) and collect fresh information about the children’s physical, motor and cognitive development, as well as their health and their relations with others before they enter adolescence.

Now that the children are older, and have left their early years behind them, they will be able to directly answer questions about their everyday lives, their aspirations and their relations with others when we visit them in their own home. Meeting the children will also give us an opportunity to assess their physical, motor and cognitive skills, by measuring their height, weight and respiratory function, and asking them to perform a few exercises and play a few logic and word recognition games.

Children will also be asked to undergo biological sampling – some at home and some in a nearby medical laboratory ‑, so that we can study biological markers of their health and measure their exposure to certain pollutants.

How will these data be analysed?

As always with the Elfe study, the data will be analysed totally anonymously by researchers from national and international teams as part of specific research projects, in compliance with our confidentiality policy.
