Boys’ or girls’ games? The role of siblings!

Using data from the Elfe study, Abigail Bourguignon, Holly Hargis, Wilfried Lignier, Julie Pagis, Helène Oehmichen, Julien Vitores and Kevin Diter looked at the differences in play choices between girls and boys, and the role of siblings.  [VIDEO FR BELOW]

In this interview, the sociologist Kevin Diter presents their work and answers our questions on the role of siblings in the choice of games between girls and boys.  At age 2, do boys and girls play differently? Do siblings influence each other in the way they play? What is the role of parents in the choice of games among siblings?

While girls tend more towards indoor games (pretend cooking, playing with dolls, etc.) and boys more towards outdoor games (playing with toy cars, balls, etc.), having an older brother or sister has an influence on younger siblings’ play.
